Prevent Permanent Pregnancy with a Sterile birth control

There are various ways to prevent pregnancy with contraception such as using condoms, birth control pills, birth control injections, and IUD (spiral birth control). But if you intend to prevent pregnancy permanently, a sterile birth control program is suitable for those of you who don't want to have children. Sterilization is the most effective method of preventing pregnancy permanently. There are two types of sterile birth control for women that you can choose, namely tubal implants (non-surgery) and tubal ligation (surgery). As for men, can do a vasectomy procedure.

Tubal Implant

Tubal implant is a non-operative sterile birth control method that is carried out by inserting two small metals (essure) into the fallopian tube (egg outlet) through the vagina and cervix. Each fallopian tube is filled with one metal. This tool will irritate the inner lining of the fallopian tubes and leave scars (scar tissue). These scars can eventually close the fallopian tubes and prevent sperm from entering to fertilize the egg. The fallopian tube closes completely after three months after the procedure. Therefore, you are advised to use other contraceptives such as condoms or birth control pills during the thickening process of the wound. According to research, the effectiveness of tubal implants in preventing pregnancy reaches 99.8 percent. This method has the possibility of side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, cramps, dizziness, bleeding, or bleeding (spots). However, most women are able to return to normal activities after the procedure is completed.

Tubal ligation

Tubal ligation is carried out through surgical procedures, namely by binding (closing) the fallopian tube to prevent eggs from entering the uterine cavity, causing permanent infertility. This method will also block the entry of sperm into the fallopian tube. The process of closing the fallopian tube is done by inflating the stomach using gas. Afterwards, the doctor will make a small incision to reach the fallopian tube. There are several ways that doctors can do to close the fallopian tubes, which are cutting and folding / binding, lifting a part of the tube, or blocking the fallopian tubes with medical devices. After undergoing the tubal ligation procedure, here are the things you should pay attention to:
  • It is recommended to rest for several days or at least one day, before returning to normal activities. Your activities can run normally about a week after the procedure is completed.
  • You can take a shower about 1 or 2 days after surgery. But remember, avoid rubbing or pressing the incision area for a week.
  • Usually you can have sex after the wound begins to heal and you have started to feel comfortable. However, first consult with your doctor, because post-operative recovery in each person is different.
  • Your vagina may bleed.
  • Your stomach may swell due to the gas used to inflate the stomach. This can go away on its own for a day or more.
  • Maybe your back or shoulder hurt due to gas in the stomach. But this can disappear after the body absorbs the gas.

Vasectomy

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure to cut or bind the sperm duct, to prevent pregnancy. This procedure aims to stop sperm from entering male semen. This means, when a man ejaculates, semen does not have sperm in it and a woman's egg cannot be fertilized. Vasectomy is almost completely effective in preventing pregnancy. However, vasectomy does not affect sexual life, such as erectile ability, ejaculation, and semen volume. Vasectomy also has no effect on the production of the hormone testosterone, the hormone responsible for sex drive, the depth of a man's voice, beard growth, and other masculine traits. Usually it takes 2 to 4 months after vasectomy until semen does not contain sperm at all. Therefore, your doctor may recommend the use of other contraceptives before the effect of KB vasectomy is optimal.

What You Need to Know before Doing a Sterile Family Planning

Before undergoing this procedure, you should know the positive and negative sides of sterile birth control, namely:
  • Positive side

  • Besides being effective and permanent in preventing pregnancy, sterile birth control does not affect your hormones. Your menstrual cycle and desire to make love are also not affected by sterile birth control. You may also be able to be more relaxed and free during intercourse because there is no need to fear pregnancy.
  • Negative side

  • Sterile birth control is most effective in preventing pregnancy. However, the opportunity to get pregnant remains (although it rarely happens). Pregnancy may occur when you are found to be pregnant during the procedure, or if surgery or insertion of a tubal implant is not done properly. If a pregnancy occurs, your risk for having an ectopic pregnancy will be higher. This procedure does not prevent you from getting a sexually transmitted disease. It is recommended that you use a condom to avoid contracting the disease.
Remember, sterile birth control is a method of preventing pregnancy that is permanent. After undergoing this procedure, you can no longer have children. Some women who undergo sterile birth control can be sorry, because something might happen that makes them want to have more children. Sterile family planning procedures, especially tubal ligation, can indeed be restored as before. But don't get your hopes up, because your level of success has a baby will be very low. Repair of the fallopian tubes cannot be done, if you have an implanted tube. Consider as mature as possible before undergoing sterile birth control. Communicate with your partner and make sure you no longer plan to have biological children in the future. If you are confused about making the right choice of contraception, you can consult your obstetrician.
